Según las encuestas realizadas por Eva Heller para su libro “Psicología del color”, el amarillo es el color mas contradictorio,  el 6% de las personas encuestadas lo eligieron como su color favorito y el 7% lo califica de ser el mas odiado de los colores a pesar de que normalmente se le relaciona con el oro, el sol y la luz así como con el optimismo, la creatividad y el entendimiento. Este color primario también se ha vinculado con el desprecio, la traición, la mentira y los celos. Es aceptado para ciertos elementos y rechazado para otros y depende, mas que ningún otro color, de las combinaciones que se hagan con él; si se combina con blanco, se convierte en un color radiante, con negro, se vuelve un color chillón; con verdes y naranjas da un aire cítrico y balanceado, con rosa fuerte, alegría, con gris, clama y elegancia; con rojos y anaranjados, calidez; si se busca un tema otoñal, el invitado de honor es el amarillo que se puede ir degradando hasta el café, pasando por los olivos.

Hay varios temas en los que se acepta el uso del amarillo, el sol, las señales de tránsito, transportes, las clásicas y famosas “caritas felices”, las hojas de otoño, algunas frutas y verduras; sin embargo, con ciertas flores amarillas como los claveles o las rosas, se piensa en celos o traición. Así mismo cuando se busca retapizar algún mueble en la casa, elegir el color de las cortinas o de la decoración de nuestro evento generalmente expresamos un rechazo a este color.

Hoy comenzamos una serie en la que vamos a estudiar a cada color, veremos como sacarles provecho al aplicarlo y olvidarnos de los prejuicios que tenemos hacia ellos. El primero {favorito de quien escribe} será el amarillo, aquí algunas imágenes para comprobar la potencia y alegría que puede generar el tenerlo presente en nuestra vida.

According to the surveys made by Eva Heller for her book “Color Psychology”, yellow is the most contradictory of all colors; 6% of the people asked, choose it as their favorite color and 7% said that they hate it, despite that normally it is related to gold, sun and light as well as optimism, creativity and understanding. This primary color is also linked to disdain, treason, lie and jealousy. It is accepted for some elements and rejected for some others and it depends, more than any other color, of the combinations that are made with it; if it is put together with white it becomes a radiant color, with black it becomes loud, with green and oranges it has a balanced and citrus air, with hot pink is joyful, with gray calmed and elegant, with reds and oranges warm, if you are looking for a fall theme the guest of honor is yellow that can degrade all the way to brown passing through olives.

There are several themes in which yellow is accepted, the sun, traffic signs, transports and the classic and famous “happy faces”; fall leaves, some fruits and veggies, however with certain yellow flowers like carnations or roses we can refer to jealousy or treason. The same way when you are looking to upholster some piece of furniture at home, choosing the color of the curtains or the decoration of our event, we commonly express a rejection towards this color.

Today we will start a series in which we will study each color and we will see how to take advantage of it when applying it and forget the prejudices we have towards them. The first one {favorite of the writer} will be yellow, here some images to proof the power and joy that can generate when present in our lives.

No tenemos que llenar de un solo color una habitación o la decoración de un evento, simplemente añadiendo algunos acentos, logramos efectos impresionantes. Puede ser con flores, telas, lámparas o muebles, que rodeados de colores neutros o contrastantes, dan alegría a cualquier espacio. El amarillo lo podemos combinar con casi cualquier color solamente tenemos que establecer nuestro objetivo y así crear el contraste que le queramos dar a la decoración.

We don’t have to fill up with one color a room or the decoration of an event,  just by adding some accents we achieve impressive effects. It can be with flowers, fabric, lamps or furniture, that surrounded with neutral or contrasting colors give joy to any space. Yellow can be combined with almost any color we only need to establish our objective and that way create the contrast that we want to give to the decoration.

Con el amarillo se tiene que tener cuidado, si se abusa de él o se combina mal, puede tener resultados negativos, sin embargo, si lo añadimos paulatinamente dentro de un ambiente, lo simple se convierte en luminoso, glamoroso y alegre. Perderle el miedo al amarillo es nuestra mejor opción, recordemos que hay mas de 150 tonos distintos de amarillo a nuestro alcance, no siempre tenemos que elegir el más brillante, podemos alegrar una habitación pintando las paredes de un amarillo tenue y con eso se logrará una atmósfera acogedora.

You have to be careful with yellow, if you abuse it or make the wrong combination, it can end up in negative results, however if we add it slowly inside an ambiance the simple, becomes luminous, glamorous and cheerful. Not to have fear of yellow it’s our best option, lets remember that there are available more than 150 shades of yellow, we don’t have to choose the brightest one all the time, we can cheer up a room by painting the walls with a light yellow and with that accomplishing a cozy atmosphere. 

La naturaleza nos regala armónicos tonos de amarillo, en las flores, algunas plantas, frutas, verduras, animales, etc, de ella podemos inspirarnos para hacer combinaciones que resulten muy llamativas. Piensa en cítricos como naranjas, limas y limones, o tal vez pimientos amarillos con rojo y anaranjado, plátanos, manzanas o guayabas; tal vez encuentres inspiración en jirafas, árboles o flores como las gerberas, girasoles, gladiolas o margaritas. Hay muchos elementos naturales que complementan su efecto contrastante mezclándose con el amarillo.

Nature gives us yellow shades in harmony, we can find it in flowers, some plants, fruits, vegetables, animals etc, we can be inspired from it to make a combination that results striking. Think in citrus fruits like oranges, limes and lemons, or maybe yellow peppers mixed with red and orange ones, bananas, apples or guavas, you may find your inspiration in giraffes, trees or flowers like gerber daisies, sunflowers or gladiolas. There are many natural elements that complement its contrasting effect by mixing up with yellow.
